Nature's Basket 

Natures Basket wants to introduce a product that will allow the self-checkout process in its physical stores. This will help with the long lines and will help avoid contact. They will still have people to monitor and be present in case of any assistance.

Assumptions

Nature's Basket is trying to improvise and adapt according to the changing situations, customer safety and requirements. Also to do the work speedily and save time of both customers and staff new machine techs are getting introduced in the markets. These new ways will help in lessening the chaos and will be a time saver for busy people. Also a lot of paper will be saved providing a sustainable solution.

 

“Supermarkets must be responsive to consumer changes and as consumers become more demanding for convenience so supermarkets must continue to provide it or disappear.”

Some questions and solutions to consider :

After covid , everyone is extra careful when it comes to food and hygiene , everything needs to be sanitised especially the retail food packets. Who has touched it? Where was it kept? Is it sanitised or not? These are common concerns of the masses. So, in order to take precautions to the extra mile , a solution where only the consumer touches the products seems to be plausible. 

>When the person self checkouts , a lot of his concerns will be solved , mainly the ones about hygiene and safety.

By complying to these self checkout methods, a lot of time, effort, convenience will be intact with reliability and safety?

How long will consumers take to get used to this new method?

>As a designer , it’s our job to make the design system very user friendly and adaptable such that it’ll be easier to operate for consumers .

How to make it more easier and adaptable?

>To make it easier we should make sure the system is minimalist, simple and the prototype is user friendly .  

What about the customers who are not much fond of technology?

>For customers who are not much fond of the new change, the volunteer can help them up and do the work for them.

How to know if someone is trying to leave the shop without paying?

>More surveillance methods and stricter security should be in play to avoid shoplifting or buyers who cheat. Before exit, the receipt and bills should be checked.

  • Nature's basket is trying to expand their horizons and try new methods which would help them reach a new level in the future.

 

  • More use of technology results in time and effort savings along with maintaining the dominance and status in the industry.

 

  • New changes should be applied with changing needs and demands.

 

  • Economical, cost-effective as well as eco-friendly solutions are great ways for both the customers as well as the industries.

Natures basket line free self-checkout mobile app with scanning features

 

An app where consumers can scan the price code in their mobile phone and checkout in the app with their personal account.

Functions -

  1. Allows customer to scan goods in their own phone 

  2. Scanning vegetables and fruits with a photo

  3. Add or remove goods from the basket

  4. A personal identification account which will also be registered at nature basket 

  5. all order purchase history , location showing nearby nature basket store, new deals and offers 

  6. Various paying options

  7. Scanning another QR code at the exit door to confirm with the store admin that customer has paid before leaving

  • Reducing risks of theft

  • A more handy solution for not so tech-savvy customers

  • Reduced staff costs and zero queues 

  • NO money will be wasted for big self service checkout setups or machines which usually comes in high costs

  • More reach towards various types of users  from all age groups and backgrounds.

Instead of looking up items in menu , the system will be able to recognize goods in the camera

  2. Recognising the object 

  3. Recognising its price and other details

Why this feature?

Some goods like fruits and vegetables do not have a barcode scanner attached to them, customers need to weigh and select it from the alphabetical menu and then add it to the cart . To make this whole process a lil convenient, an option for photo scanning seems plausible.

Friendlier/Well known AI guide

 

A character or a famous figure should be assigned which will guide then users as if chatting to them

  1. The AI will introduce and guide the customers on how to operate the machine

  2. Answer their queries.

  3. It'll be interactive

Why this feature?

The big machines might look intimidating to some of the customers so giving the machine a friendlier approach or showing them a familiar face might help in making the customer feel more at ease.

Different ways to solve the problem:

 

  • Placing self-checkouts machines in the physical stores where customers can scan the products , get the bill and pay using their chosen convenient method such as card payments, UPIs, Net banking etc.

  • On these machines with big displays , one can even create an account or access their account from the Natures basket app for the order history.

  • Customers can get to know about special offers, get information about a particular product by scanning the barcode, find item locations and see which products are available and which are not at the self checkout kiosks.

  • We can also provide options for monthly buyers to subscribe with ………… amount of money and keep track of the pending money with their existing accounts. 

  • The self scan and self checkout options could be provided in the mobile app as well so that in case if the machines are blocked due to heavy crowds on a busy day, one can simply continue the billing in their own phone or they can opt for mobile according to their personal preference. All the data will be secured and stored in the account.

  • The majority of transactions can be performed with a basic unit that incorporates a touch screen, barcode scanner, and credit card reader.

  • Offering a multilingual option for consumers from all backgrounds.

Through providing more interactive and easily operative features , customer engagement will increase. Not only that , this will attract new consumers as well, increasing the companies gross income as well.
